NO Palm Oil
Earth Friendly Products is committed to using environment friendly, renewable and green chemistries to meet its formulation requirements. As part of this policy Earth Friendly Products uses coconut oil based surfactants and all formulations are free from Palm oil. To clarify, Palm oil is extracted from the pulp of the fruit of the oil palm (Elaeis guineensis); and coconut oil is derived from the kernel of the coconut harvested from the Coconut Palm (Cocos nucifera). Surfactants impact the environment not only in their use and disposal, but also in their production and delivery. The rising demand for palm oil production is claimed to contribute to substantial and irreversible environmental degradation including four percent of global greenhouse gas emissions and eight percent of all global emissions caused annually by burning fossil fuels due to the large areas of rainforest that are cleared to make way for palm oil plantations in Malaysia, Indonesia & Colombia.
Coconut oil is regarded as renewable resource which can be grown again in contrast to fossil and mineral raw materials such as crude oil, coals, ores, etc. whose occurrence is limited and finite. Coconut trees can grow in almost any kind of soil even in sandy soils in seashores. They live and bear fruit for up to more than sixty years. It is considered a “three-generation tree” which can support a farmer, his children and his grandchildren.
Earth Friendly Products suppliers are provided with a sustainability guide along with a questionnaire in order to develop mutually-beneficial initiatives and solutions towards their goal of producing quality cleaning products in the most environmentally and socially responsible method.
