No Salt

FIRST To stop use of salts in all cleaners, an action necessary to protect water supplies.

In December 2009, Van Vlahakis made a radical and pioneering move to stop producing Laundry and Dishwasher Powders. Drought and climate change are reducing water supplies and we are under pressure to re-use and recycle sewage and run-off for irrigation, groundwater recharge and even drinking water. Water treatment is expensive and the high levels of salt add to this problem. Laundry powders can be 70-80% salt, and this can make it impossible to clean and desalinate. Laundry and dishwasher powders are the second leading source of human-made inorganic nutrient pollution in the US and other developed countries- and sodium along with phosphates is a primary culprit. Earth Friendly has addressed this problem by ceasing production of all salt based powders, a quite unique stance and encourage consumers to switch away from salt based powders and use Earth Friendly Products that have tested among the lowest in sodium of all green products.
