Beach and Picnic Mats

Beautiful sturdy mats which are perfect for picnics, camping, yoga & days out at the beach. Skilfully hand-made using the traditional craft of weaving leaves from the Sago Palm. The long leaves are hand collected, cleaned and dried, then scraped to make them glossy and flexible and then hand woven into mats. The mat is a traditional sleeping mat in areas of the Philippines and with care will last for years. Each mat provides valuable employment for local families and preserves a rural craft.

The mats, known locally as 'Banigs' are made nearby Michael's farm by women who are skilled in this traditional craft.
